Q: funniest sounding Chinese name?

I saw some made up Chinese names like "hoo flueng dung" and "wai so dim" and "mi hung lo". Anybody got any real ones that are funny?

I have a friend whose name is Ping and her sister's name is Pong.

There's a restaurant in Melbourne named the Fook Hing and one day, about 30 years ago, when I was visiting my parents there Mum said "lets go to the Fook Hing restaurant for tea!"  If you knew my mum you would know that this was one of the funniest utterances ever!

I know a Gu Zi, it sounds like Goose.

Like Royce I know a Ping who is from Hong Kong, what comes to my mind isn't ping pong but the network latency on the internet that's called ping.

Some local companies have funny names, like the real estate developer Wan Ke that sounds somehow like a sexual activity practiced by lonely males and they must be aware of it since they changed their name to Vanke in English.

I think it is hard to beat Wang.    ooooops.... I don't mean to beat wang....

I wonder how an ABC goes around telling/getting asked his name...   Right this way, Mr. Wang.  Long day Wang?  Hi, I'm Wang.  must be pretty weird... like in the old days when white folk would name their kid Richard and then start calling him Dick.  damn!  what a rip-off!    u know that guy Dick, he is such a dick!

Gonna' go native and post a few real names here. Going by English transliterations, Du Fu (杜甫) is a good one.  He's a famous poet too. Also Cao Cao 曹操, which is also one that Chinese seem to enjoy saying.

Does it have to be the name of a person. I went to the Wanke centre the other day. I was confused as to why I got arrested. I kept telling them it is the wank centre though.

Chinese give their children names based on Chinese tradition.

You throw a pot from stairs. Then you listen sound that is coming from the pot.

If it makes a ``chang``  sound you give that name

If it makes a ``chong``  sound you give that name.

If it makes a ``donggg``  sound you give that name.

Simple as that.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
